Digital Arts: What are Designers Thinking About the New World Cup Logo?

Earlier this month, FIFA revealed the logo for the 2022 World Cup. The design industry’s reaction so far has been… interesting.

As Digital Arts reports, the curved emblem, designed by Portuguese design studio Unlock is said to mimic an eight symbol, referencing the number of stadiums that will be hosting the event in Qatar. It also claims to mirror the shape of the World Cup trophy itself, the curves of Arabic calligraphy, and the traditional shawls worn throughout the winter months in the Middle East.

In other words, it’s a logo that packs in a TON of metaphor. But is it effective?
